More about Big Green Weekender

We look forward to welcoming you to Art Gene’s Big Green Weekender, 23-24 September 2022, noon to evening.

Free of charge, it will feature a range of talks about climate change and the actions we can all take to make a difference to reduce our carbon footprint. We’ll have a full schedule of activities for schools, families and adults across the two days, including bat walks, composting workshops, moth trap discovery sessions, pond dipping, plant-based cooking, apple pressing, foraging and creative art sessions (detailed timetable to follow).

There will be an opportunity for a limited number of family groups to camp on site overnight (NB: no shower facilities available!) We’ll share delicious food grown on the community allotment by our volunteers, including a hot breakfast for the campers. If you would like to book a camping pitch, offer an activity or enquire about the event please email: enquiries@art-gene.co.uk in the first instance.

We look forward to welcoming you to this mini-festival. It is organised as a response to the Furness Climate Change Jury’s recommendation for more events in Barrow that engage local people with the climate emergency we face. It is delivered with support from the Climate Coalition, the National Lottery Community Fund (via Cumbria Action for Sustainability), the European Regional Development Fund, the Cumbria Local Enterprise Partnership, Arts Council England – and a huge amount of volunteer effort from the small Art Gene team.
