Noah's Ark plastic bottle painting Fri 30 Sep

Join us for 17 weeks of fun, creativity and imagination and help us build an ark from plastic bottles found in nearby parks and green spaces

About this event

Noah`s Ark- Project funded by NCIL and Barking and Dagenham Council

Do you love Nature?

Are you passionate about making a difference in combating climate change?

Come and board on Noah`s Ark and let’s save our Planet!

Noah`s ark is the symbol of a new beginning and salvation; together we can build a new world where plastic waste can no longer be a factor in climate change and environmental damage.

“And I dream of the vast deserts, the forests, and all of the wilderness of our continent, wild places that we should protect as a precious heritage for our children and for our children’s children. We must never forget that it is our duty to protect this environment.”

— Nelson Mandela.

Join us for 17 weeks of fun, creativity and imagination, helping us build an ark from plastic bottles found in nearby parks and green spaces.

Every Saturday we will go on the hunt for plastic bottles that can be included in our ark, around the different parks and green spaces of the Barking and Dagenham Borough.

Every week we will deliver fun, creative and unique painting workshops using our collected plastic bottles, to be included in our ark for thousands of people to see.

The boat will be a large-scale sculpture, to represent the shocking facts of the conditions we leave our spaces in, as well as to commemorate the great historical importance Barking has had as a leading fishing port in the 19th century and then as a centre for brewing.

We understand that not everyone will be available at the times we run our events, so we are inviting locals to take their own initiative and collect plastic bottles from local green spaces in their own time, bringing them to our collection points.

Please feel free to pop in the gallery and request a bin bag for collection.

Great Big Green Day Sun 2 Oct

Tunbridge Wells Friends of the Earth has teamed up with The Forum (Tunbridge Wells Common) to bring you the Great Big Green Day on Sunday the 2nd of October from 12.30 to 4.30 PM (free entry).

Come and listen to an update from your local TWB Councillors on the Climate Emergency Advisory Panel (CEAP) on progress towards the 2030 net zero carbon goal. They will also engage in a Q&A with you, the audience. You can submit questions in advance to tunwellsfoe@gmail.com but we will take questions from the floor too.

Further, there will be presentations by experts and advocates on Community Energy schemes and Renewable Energy, who will also happily engage in Q&A with members of the public.

Many people worry about electricity costs and supplies and are looking for answers on how the crisis can be tackled. With a government promoting fracking and drilling for North Sea gas, we think it is really important to provide an alternative story that will inform people about solutions offered by renewable energy, and possibly inspire the community to explore ways of generating energy themselves.

Have your say! There will be 5-minute “soap box” slots for members of the audience to express their views on environmental issues, sing a song or read eco poetry.

Last but not least, local community groups, such as Repair Café, CAGNE (communities against Gatwick noise emissions) and the Soroptimists, will be there with informational material and time for a chat.
