Newtown's Summer ShareFest

Come along and enjoy a day of sharing, swapping and sustainability in Newtown. Bring your items to share and swap! Meet local sustainable organisations, enjoy some free activities and learn more about what is going on locally.

Where?

*change of location. The event will be held INSIDE Hafan yr Afon.

What can be swapped?

  • Clothes (of all ages)
  • Children’s toys
  • Books
  • Plants
  • Art pieces (paintings etc)

*please do not bring anything outside of this specificized list as they will not be accepted*

How many items can you bring? Maximum of 15 items per person

How Does it work?

Get a token for each item you bring! Don’t have anything to bring? Join Newtown Town Council and Keep Wales Tidy to partake in a litter pick and get some free tokens to exchange for any items.

DROP OFF COLLECTIONS

We are hosting drop-off collections on 10th June 11am-3pm and 12th June 9am-2pm at Hafan yr Afon, Newtown. This is so that we have items ready to swap at the beginning of the day.

Will there be food? 

We invite attendees to bring their own picnics, grab a picnic blanket and sit in the sun and enjoy the festival atmosphere. 

There will be some light refreshments available.

Newtown Food Surplus will be hosting a Food Share at the ShareFest. This food will be free for attendees to take, donations are welcome.  

*Please note, the Food Share will be happening at the beginning of the event so if you wanted to partake in this then please turn up at 12pm.

Music:

Folk Session: Bring an instrument to share some traditional folk tunes!

Activities: 

The event is host to many activities and workshops, here’s a sneak peak:

  • Get stuck into Cultivates Carbon Top Trumps game, Bee’s Wax Wraps and Our Planet – looking at Carbon in the food system
  • Do sustainable arts and crafts with the Oriel Davies Gallery
  • Get your face painted!
  • Art by K Fitch children’s activities: Come and have a go at making your own book, using natural materials and handmade paper then see how many local plants and wildlife you can spot.
  • Upcycling workshops with Sew4uuk
  • Lawn games

Trefeglwys Refills

  • Refill your personal care and household products (this will be the only paid aspect to the event and will not be on the token system)

Sustainable travel

  • Bike to the Future: Bring a repair stand and cargo bike, and undertake a triage repair service, which will consist of twiddling screws and tightening cables but no parts replacement. Each bike can have a fault and repair diagnosis.
  • Trip to: Electric car sharing club, a chance to learn about car sharing and have a tour of the electric car that is available in Newtown.
