Wednesday 12 June
The Government of Jersey’s Biosecurity Team are looking for volunteers to help with the hands-on removal of the invasive plant ‘purple dew plant’ from the Five Mile Road.
Purple dew plant (Disphyma crassifolium) is a pretty looking succulent plant that has small jelly-bean-like leaves. Whilst it may look pretty, the plant outcompetes native plants and creates thick mats of vegetation that now covers many areas above the sea wall on the Five Mile Road.
During this session, volunteers will hand pull purple dewplant to create open areas that will allow space for native plants to re-establish.
Volunteers should wear appropriate clothing suitable for outdoor activities. If you have gardening gloves, bring them along; otherwise, the biosecurity team will provide additional gloves and other necessary equipment.
Public toilets are located at El Tico and refreshments are available at El Tico and The Line-Up. Please also bring plenty of water and a snacks to keep you fuelled throughout the morning. There will be a chance to socialise and grab a refreshments after the morning of hard work.
Please apply for a free ticket for this event.
