Monday 10 June

TEDxStAlbansSalon: What Did YOU Do in the Climate Crisis - a conversation for future generations

An opportunity to think through your next actions in support of the climate and future generations. A TEDx Salon is an informal event with plenty of opportunity for small group discussion. There will be two speakers;

  • Judith Leary-Joyce: How to develop a climate positive mindset.
  • Emma Fletcher: Community collaborations and disrupting the norm

We will also watch Greta Thunberg’s original TED talk that is a rallying call for future generations.

The output of the session will be Emmett’s Promise – participants will be asked to commit to a specific action to support the health and well being of future generations.

Additional information

Judith Leary-Joyce – author of Beginner’s Guide to Eco Renovation / 40 years experience of working in Psychology – will talk about why we behave as we do in relation to climate: why some feel able to take action, while others don’t get engaged.

Emma Fletcher – Low Carbon Homes Director, Octopus Energy and renewable energy pioneer – will share her experience of leading the UK’s first green district heating system in her own village.

After each talk, we will work in small groups to explore personal responses and possible actions for the future. We hope participants will find ‘buddies’ to help them persist with their agreed actions over time.

The end result will be a personal commitment – Emmett’s Promise (insert the name of someone young you care about) so everyone walks away with their next action and renewed commitment to a future for the young.
